Genex Cooperative, Inc. presented “Excellence in Reproduction” awards honoring Genex members and customers for outstanding reproductive performance within their dairy herds.
“In its first year, this award program received nominations from Genex and AgSource Cooperative Services representatives across the nation for nearly 50 herds, all of which were reproductive award-winning caliber herds,” explains Kristi Fiedler, Genex National Account Specialist Manager.
“After close examination of reproductive performance records and use of a mathematical matrix calculation, 12 herds were identified as leaders in reproductive management and recipients of the 2011 Excellence in Reproduction awards.”
Earning platinum awards, the highest awards bestowed, were Circle Bar Heifer Ranch, Satanta, Kan.; Hourigan Family Dairy, Syracuse, N.Y.; Golden Dawn Dairy, Merrill, Wis.; and Sun Ridge Dairy, Nampa, Idaho.
Dairies winning gold level awards were Southview Dairy, Wendell, Idaho; Adirondack Farms, LLC, Peru, N.Y.; Schilling Farms LLC, Darlington, Wis.; Tom & Chuck Meier, Waunakee, Wis.; Kodesh Dairy, Rice Lake, Wis.; and T&K Dairy, Snyder, Texas. Silver awards were presented to Coleman Ponderosa, Coleman, Wis., and Seidl’s Mountain View Dairy, Luxemburg, Wis.
“Those individuals involved in herd and reproductive management on these 12 dairies should be extremely proud,” explains Fiedler. “Their efforts have propelled these dairies to the top of the industry for reproductive performance. Altogether these operations average a 30% pregnancy rate for cows with 81% of all cows pregnant by 150 DIM. The heifer facilities average a 48% pregnancy rate.”
